The International Office held a Children's University for the children of the faculty of the "Hristo Botev" School of International Studies. Lecturers from UACEG surprised the children and presented them in an accessible and entertaining way various research and tests that are conducted in the departments and laboratories of the University.
Taking necessary safety precautions, the children participated in demonstrations of an automated total station system with a built-in laser scanner and drone control conducted by Asst. Dr. Eng. Georgi Marinov from the Department of Higher Geodesy and demonstration of sand models and 3D printer, led by head asst. Dr. Eng. Sylvia Marinova from the Department of Photogrammetry and Cartography at the Faculty of Geodesy.
Then they got acquainted with the profession of hydro engineers in the laboratory of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Hydraulic Reclamation, where Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Angel Zahariev - Vice-Dean for Educational Activities and Principal as. Dr. Eng. Slavka Mechkarova from the Faculty of Hydraulic Engineering, demonstrated the function of the dam and the management of water resources.
Prof. Dr. Eng. Stoyo Todorov - Deputy Rector for European Integration and International Cooperation and lecturer at the Department of Railways received the young visitors in the laboratory of the Faculty of Transport Engineering and explained to them the main elements of the railway system.
The children also visited the laboratory of the Department of Mechanics of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and made demonstrations at the National Centre of Seismic Engineering. There Eng. Ognyan Ganchev made them witness the earthquake testing and explained them the testing of the elements of concrete structures.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arch. Prof. Tsvetelina Daskalova - Head of International Office invited the future students to look at the works of current architecture students and gave them a task to draw a model of a building. The guests actively participated in all processes, drew and played. Finally, they gathered in room 226 where they left their personal message to the students for their first day of school.
The Rector for a Day initiative was also implemented as part of the event. The children visited the Rector of UACEG - Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivan Markov, they even sat on his armchair, each signed and stamped his order.
The event ended with a joint photo session. The children received certificates for their successful participation in the Children's University and an invitation to its next edition.
